Gramercy Tavern. Kodak Portra 800.
An older man at the bar spotted CV and me and asked if he could take a photo with my Nikon F, which was sitting next to my iced tea. I said sure, and passed it to another stranger with a white wine, who handed it to him.
He didn’t realize at first that he needed to focus the lens or wind the camera before taking the picture. Once he did, he got very serious, put on his glasses, and took the shot.
I never got his name. I wish I had, so I could thank him for this image. When I tried to pay at the end of the meal, the bartender told us it was already taken care of. I’ll always wonder how.
